Men's Fashion Faux Pas
We have all made fashion errors now and again, but some fashion mistakes made by men are just unforgivable. If you want to make sure you don’t fall into the trap of the most flagrant fashion snafus, use a dash of common sense and follow these five simple rules:
ONE: Throw away the novelty neckties. OK, one or two crazy neckties are fine to drag out for family reunions, silly get-togethers, or Halloween. But have some mercy on the rest of us and them out of the boardroom or any other setting where you want to look respectable. The problem with novelties in clothing is that what is funny now, usually isn’t humorous for long.
TWO: Never, and I mean never, wear socks with sandals. This is a disturbing trend. Please don’t participate, this one it’s ok to sit out on. Please! Wearing socks with sandals is the quickest way I know of to look goofy. So if you want to look goofy, go ahead. But forewarned is forearmed. Save your sandals for the beach or around the house. Don’t take them to the office and never, never wear them with socks.
THREE: Always match your socks with your suit. When choosing socks, the basic rule is to consider the suit instead of the shoe—in other words, if you’re wearing a navy suit with black shoes, reach for navy socks. And when wearing a light suit, make sure the socks are darker than the suit but a shade or so lighter than the shoes.
FOUR: Stay away from in-your-face designer Labels. Do you want to be a walking advertisement? Only if someone is paying you lots of money for a very short period of time. Wearing those bold designer labels may tell others that you paid a lot for your clothes, but they are not typically a sophisticated look. Wearing designer’s names does not necessarily equate to stylish. Keep it understated and keep it simple.
FIVE: Tailor your suits as needed. Even the best suits need altering. Pants need to be shortened, jackets need to be brought in, sleeves need to be narrowed (yes, you can ask your tailor to slim down your sleeves), and buttons need to be realigned with buttonholes. Most guys’ shoulders aren’t perfectly even (who knows?!) meaning your jacket often sits on your shoulders slightly askew). Sure, buy your correct size but then have a tailor customize it to your body. It may not be a big difference but it will be the difference between being appropriately dressed and being stylishly dressed.

Things to Consider for Traveling Men
When you are on an official trip, dressing for success is very essential. You might be meeting quiet a few people for the first time and need to make a good impression. In this scenario, let yourself be guided by the notion that clothes make the man. Let’s learn what the must-pack pieces are for a 2- to 3-day business trip. These essentials will let you create a multitude of ensembles that will get you through formal daytime events and meetings as well as evening dinner or cocktail meet and treats.
Emptied suit: For a short business trip, there’s no need to pack more than one suit. Since you will literally need to wear it on 1 day, the suit you pack for a business trip should have a classic cut; choose a neutral color like navy blue or gray because these are easy to match with different dress shirts and ties. Bring no more than 3 dress shirts with you when you pack for a business trip, and try to cut it down to 2 if you can. Aside from a white dress shirt, pack a colored one for a bit of variety and to increase the number of looks you can get out of your travel wardrobe.
Co-Travelers: While being asked to go alone to a conference at a common place, many times you will find yourself accompanied with coworkers. Added, it would also be a convenient time to bring your next of kin for an extended weekend. In the case of a same-sex colleague, keep in mind that you may be asked to carve up a hotel room to help conserve finances. In the event your colleague is of the parallel sex, this trip is not the place to let your intentions shine through. When you are accompanied with your coworkers, act professionally and respectfully.
Recreation at official trips: While on an official trip, it might be tempting to tour the place or go for sightseeing, especially if you happen to visit the place for the 1st time or your expenses are mettle by others. This however is not a healthy practice in corporate life. Interpreting to finish your work early and bending your back at leisure trip will send forth thoughts to your official that you were not served full, that in turn will result in over loading of work in the future. Act smart and recreations can be considered if you happen to travel during a weekend.
Business outing: As you are invited for conferences, you might be expected to entertain some clients. If that is expected of you, first set your limits to your company’s policies and venues. Even when you have not have planned dinner meetings, always keep an open mind for what business opportunities that sneaks your way. When you are out for business, off course your behavior plays a pivotal part, so control over the drink, food and talks are vital.
